cording to Mark—“I believe; help my unbelief!” (9:24)—the sermon is striking not only for the seriousness with which it takes both its audience and the biblical witness, but also for the way in which it expresses this regard. I detect this attitude in the experience of the father in a couple of ways. He teaches us a very vital lesson for life: that the very best place to go when we have doubts about Jesus is right to the feet of Jesus Himself. We are fickle people, turning the requirement of faith into the problem of faith. I think after this. And straightway the father of the child cried out, and said with tears, Lord, I believe; help you my unbelief. So don’t be afraid to cry out to the Lord, “I believe, help my unbelief!” He won’t turn a deaf ear to that prayer. And at the heart of the story is how Jesus responded to these acts of doubt and fear on the part of two of his closest friends and disciples. And that leads us to our passage. He may have event spent most—or even all—of what he had on doctors; and would have spent most of his time going to priests. We can even speculate (and it is just speculation) that the reason Thomas was not present when Jesus appeared to the others is that he was not hiding in fear with them – that he was still “out on the street.”. He does not cast him off as worthless because he was unable to demonstrate a strong enough faith. It is this renewed and revitalized Apostle Peter that we hear preaching in our lessons today.
